These 2025 Compliance Deadlines Are Already Last Minute

2025 Cyber deadlines

By the time we hit the back half of 2025, Australian businesses will be juggling some serious IT and compliance deadlines. We’ve seen too many organisations leave things until the eleventh hour and when that happens, the result is usually rushed upgrades, blown budgets, or worse, a compliance failure that damages reputation.

If you plan ahead, though, each of these can be handled smoothly. Here are the big ones you need on your radar now.

1. Windows 10 Support Ends – 14 October 2025

Microsoft will officially stop supporting Windows 10 in October this year. That means no more security updates… If you’re still running Windows 10 past this date, you’ll be wide open to cyber risks, not to mention compatibility issues with the software your team depends on.

The tricky part? Upgrades aren’t just about pushing a button. Some devices won’t support Windows 11, so you may need to plan for hardware replacements too. Leaving it late means supply chain delays, rushed installs and downtime you can’t afford.

Our advice: Start mapping your environment now. We’ve helped plenty of businesses stage upgrades so there’s no nasty pile-up at deadline time and we can even explore cost-effective options that fit your agenda.

2. ISO 27001:2022 Transition – Deadline 31 October 2025

If your business is ISO 27001 certified, you only have until 31 October 2025 to transition from the 2013 version to the updated 2022 standard. From 1 November, the old certifications simply won’t be valid.

The new ISO standard isn’t a tick-and-flick exercise. It’s more demanding on cyber resilience, risk management, and privacy. Many organisations underestimate the work involved in updating policies, running risk assessments, aligning processes and preparing for audits. If you haven’t started this process yet, you will be scrambling.

Our advice: Treat this like any other major project. Do a gap analysis now, spread the changes over the coming months and give yourself breathing room before the deadline crunch. Our Business Technology Consultants have already guided businesses through this transition and know exactly where the bottlenecks can occur.

3. Aged Care Reform – Effective 1 November 2025

For Aged Care Providers, the reforms landing in November 2025 are some of the most significant in decades. The new Aged Care Act brings tighter governance, transparent billing, real-time care reporting and stronger privacy requirements. It’s not just compliance paperwork, it will reshape how providers run their operations day to day.

We’ve spoken to providers who are worried about the IT lift this will require. From secure record-keeping systems to automated reporting workflows. And rightly so. Leaving it until the last minute will be a recipe for stressed staff and rushed system changes that put care quality at risk.

Our advice: Start early, even if it’s just scoping the systems and processes that need attention. We work closely with Aged Care organisations and understand the operational realities so we can help design solutions that not only meet the new standards but also make life easier for your staff.

4. Major Privacy Law Reform – Effective 10 June 2025

Australia’s privacy laws changed significantly on 10 June 2025, with major reforms to the Privacy Act now in force.

If your business collects, stores, or shares personal data, you must already be compliant with new obligations, including tougher standards for data security, faster breach reporting and a legal right for individuals to sue for serious privacy invasions. The penalties for non-compliance are steep, up to $50 million or 30% of turnover for serious breaches. If you haven’t reviewed your privacy frameworks, staff training and breach response plans, now is the time. Leaving this unchecked risks lawsuits, regulatory investigations, and reputational damage.

Our advice: Double-check your privacy policy, audit your data handling practices and ensure your team understands the new requirements. We can help you assess your compliance and build a roadmap to address any gaps before they become costly problems.

5. Essential 8 Cyber Security Mandate – Throughout 2025

Cyber Security is no longer optional for some Australian businesses, especially those working with government contracts or in critical infrastructure. In 2025, the Essential 8 cyber security controls are being mandated at higher maturity levels for more sectors, including defence, education and healthcare. This means stricter requirements for patching, multi-factor authentication, backups, and application whitelisting.

The work involved is substantial—implementing these controls takes time, planning, and often new technology. Leaving it until the last minute risks non-compliance, loss of contracts, and exposure to cyber threats.

Our advice: Review your current Cyber Security posture now. We can help you assess gaps, prioritise upgrades, and build a roadmap to meet Essential 8 requirements before the deadline crunch.
