Microsoft Introduces M/M Billing, Bundles & Promotions for Copilot Business

Month to Month Billing & Bundle Options, M365 Copilot Business

Microsoft has announced a significant change to how organisations can purchase Microsoft 365 Copilot Business. In our previous blog, we talked about how Microsoft has made Copilot more affordable for SMBs. Since then they have made further updates, announcing that from 1 March 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot Business and its corresponding bundles will be available on a month‑to‑month (M/M) billing model.

At first glance, this may sound like a small licensing update. In reality, it’s an important shift that customers should pay close attention to, especially those considering Copilot but hesitant about long‑term commitments. The Microsoft announcement clarified that “M/M plans will be priced at a premium compared to annual commitment options.”

They also announced “they are raising prices across nearly every Business, Enterprise, and Frontline plan starting July 1, 2026″. Microsoft has added over 1,100 new features in the past year, including advanced AI (Copilot), security, and management tools now bundled into core suites. For most organisations, this will means higher renewal costs, but also more value and complexity to navigate. Stay tuned for more information.

What is Microsoft offering from March 1st?

Until now, Copilot Business has primarily been sold on an annual commitment, even when billed monthly. The new option allows eligible customers to pay month‑to‑month with no annual lock‑in when purchasing Copilot Business or Copilot Business bundles via CSP partners, like Diamond IT.

This new billing option:

  • Removes the requirement to commit for 12 months.
  • Applies specifically to Microsoft 365 Copilot Business and bundled offers.
  • Is priced at a premium compared to annual commitment plans (20%).
  • Is not eligible for promotional discounts.

In short, Microsoft is offering more flexibility, but not at a lower price.

What are the Copilot Business bundles?

The bundles themselves are not new, but they are worth revisiting as they provide a simplified way to adopt Copilot. Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is designed for organisations with up to 300 users and requires a Microsoft 365 Business base licence. To make purchasing easier, Microsoft offers bundles that combine both into a single SKU:

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic + Copilot Business
  • Microsoft 365 Business Standard + Copilot Business
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium + Copilot Business

These bundles give customers access to Copilot directly inside familiar apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, alongside the security and management capabilities of their chosen Microsoft 365 Business plan.

The key change is how you can now pay for these bundles. From March 2026, customers can choose either:

  • Annual commitment / annual billing (best value),
  • Annual commitment / monthly billing (cash-flow flexibility) with 5% uplift; or
  • Month‑to‑month billing with 20% uplift (maximum flexibility).

Considering month‑to‑month billing?

Month‑to‑month billing isn’t designed to replace annual licensing, but it does open the door for organisations that want to start smaller or move faster. This option may be a good fit if you:

  • Want to trial Copilot with a small group before rolling it out more broadly.
  • Are unsure how quickly Copilot will deliver value for your teams.
  • Prefer flexibility while budgets or headcount are still changing.
  • Want to avoid long‑term lock‑in during an evaluation phase.

For many customers, the most effective approach will be to start on month‑to‑month, prove value, and then move to an annual commitment once Copilot is embedded into daily workflows.

Or why not start with Copilot Chat

For organisations who want to explore AI before committing to Copilot Business, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is available at no additional cost with eligible Microsoft 365 Business plans. Copilot Chat allows users to securely brainstorm ideas, draft content, summarise information, and ask questions using AI, all within Microsoft’s enterprise‑grade security framework.

Trying Copilot Chat first can be a practical way to familiarise teams with AI‑assisted workflows. When you’re ready to take the next step, Copilot Business builds on this foundation by connecting AI directly to your organisation’s emails, documents, meetings, and collaboration data, unlocking significantly deeper productivity benefits.

Is your organisation ready for Copilot?

While Microsoft’s new billing flexibility makes it easier to get started, licensing alone doesn’t guarantee success.

“It’s important to note that billing flexibility alone doesn’t guarantee results”, says Gavin Hall, Business Technology Consultant, Diamond IT. “Copilot delivers the most value when it’s paired with clear use cases, user training and adoption support & good data hygiene and security practices.”

To get real value from Copilot, organisations need to understand where it will help first, ensure users know how to work with AI effectively, and confirm that business data is well‑structured, permissioned, and secure. Without this foundation, adoption can stall and productivity gains may fall short of expectations.

Whether you choose month‑to‑month or annual billing, success ultimately comes from how Copilot is used and embedded into daily work, not just how it’s licensed. Discuss a Microsoft 365 Copilot Readiness Assessment with us today.
